The kicker is that the scouts pick Baldy as their number one activity
choice. So that limits the field. We had 3 crews in 2004 and they all
wanted to do Baldy including a few returnees

Subject: Re: [Philmont]: Baldy and "over the Tooth"
My $.02.......
Having had the opportunity to participate in more than 1 Philmont trek... I
would submit that there is a whole lot more to Philmont than limiting or
concentrating your trek selections to just Baldy and over-the-tooth.
Is the North or South area of Philmont the best? Let us not leave out the
Valle Vidal area.
I realize the Valle is not technically Philmont property, however, there are
numerous treks into the Valle that offer programs, hiking and trekking
challenges, wildlife and scenery not normally found on Philmont proper. The
choices seem limitless, well ok only 35. <grin>
This all supports our consistent them; "There are no bad treks at
Philmont." Some treks just seem to fit the desires and expectations of a
crew better than others.
off the soap-box.....
