Great solution and low cost. Collapsible also. Cracked me up. Sometimes
we get to high tech.

We used 2 liter soda bottles , two per crew member, tied to each end of a 2
ft string. Easy to hang over the end of an external frame pack and secure
with a web strap. They were left empty or only partially filled, as
required, based on our crew water needs We considered them crew gear,as they
were in addition to each person's personal water bottles. We did this in on
treks in 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002. It worked well and distributed the
weight evenly between crew members.
However, in 2002, staff made us start hanging the bottles at night out of
fear bears would still be able to smell the former contents of the bottles.
We never had a bear problem on any of those trips, but it was a good point.
Next time I would use the roll up platypus style bottles instead.

Just wondering how you carry twice the water for dry camps. do you use
the three 2.5 gallon containers you are supposed to bring, or do you use 3
liter platypus or nalgene canteens for each crew members. Seems like
carrying that 2.5 gallon container would be a real pain!
