[philmont] Dining Flys

Kelty makes a great tarp (Noah's Tarp) that can used as a "dining fly" at Philmont and then converted
for use as a tarptent cover when you return for camping for a group of 6 to 9 with or without bivy's. This
would make it double duty for SoCal and other users all year. The weight to cost and strength can't be
beat for the price. They come in different sizes. We've used the 12x12 tarp all over, even used it
double duty to give us a dry place to cook while at the same time collecting cooking water off the tarp
during rain storms. These tarps weigh much less than the Philmont tarps.

> If you want something heavier duty - say for regular troop caming as well as backpacking - you can
order last season's tarps from Philmont. Contact the ranch:
> Phone: 505-376-2281
> FAX: 505-376-2602
> Email: philfood@philmontscoutranch.org
> Mail: Attn: Commissary
> Philmont Scout Ranch
> 17 Deer Run Rd
> Cimarron, NM 87714
> Ask for services and then ask for a copy of their surplus equipment list. While you're at it you may
also want to ask for the commisary and order some Phil-meals for shakedowns. The 2005 surplus
meals are now available.
> Check in the list archives and you can find a copy of the 2005 menu I posted.

light. My crew used it in 04 and it worked great for us.

lighter than the Philmont ones, but still uses a similar system to put up.
