We used the Philmont dining fly and poles in 2002. This was an area we
wanted to shave weight in 2004 (smaller crew members) so we bought a Noah's
tarp. It was awesome! I forget the details (I'm sure they are on the
net), but it weighed about 1/2 that of the Philmont dining fly, plus we
used hiking poles as our supports. Not sure if we will use Noah's Tarps
for the council contingent in 2007, but I doubt we will be using Philmont's
dining flys.
With all the talk about Tyvek, I wonder why Philmont doesn't go that route
for their issued flys, if it is that great? You'd think it would be
cheaper, lighter and more durable???? There must be a drawback? No
flames, just inquiring minds want to know <g>? YIS. Mike ('02, '04 and
'07).
