[Philmont] Pizza at Cimarron River

Greetings All,

I would like to confirm or debunk something that was conveyed by a
fellow Scouter regarding the subject:

First some background. One of our crews has itinerary #28 this summer.
On Day 7 they are scheduled to hike from Clarks Fork to Cimarron River
Camp with a food pickup at Ute Gulch Commissary, a distance of a little
over 13 miles - looking at the graph on the side of the map, its more
like 15. Cimarron River Camp is only about 3/4 to a mile from the
bridge/viaduct at the highway, and I've been read, and will confirm with
Simple Simons on arrival, that they will deliver pizza there. Because
of the circumstances, I am considering hiking out to the road and
ordering pizzas for the crew. It goes against my basic intincts
regarding a Philmont Trek, but it could also be a rather neat way to
recognize a crew accomplishment - 13 miles is one heck of a day! I
think it is also one of the crew member's birthday.

Now the issue. I was told that Philmont Administration severely
discourages/frowns on the practice; that the staff is constantly
removing the Simple Simons sign from the viaduct, and have tried to
persuade them not to deliver to the area. In fact, I was told that Mark
Anderson has even been involved and told groups (unit contingents??) he
has observed to not consider returning to Philmont - black balled in
effect.

Any one got any information on this? I certainly don't want to upset
the apple cart, and the plan is currently tentative at best.

Happy Trails
