For me personally, the intention is not to injest caffeine, I will be taking decaffinated coffee to drink. I simply enjoy the taste of a cup of hot coffee in the morning. This sort of goes along with the thread of 'not making things TOO convenient'. If I like it then why give up the convenience of having it? I will be giving up all caffeine 6 weeks before leaving for the ranch 'just in case' it makes a difference.

Why not skip the boiling of the water and simply take a Vivarin, if ingestion of caffeine is the object? (obvously this does not apply if ingestion of hot liquid is the object. Or taste, for that matter. For either ot those priorities, I'd go for Cup of Soup or apple cider, rather than instant coffee). Can't say I've tried this one on the trail (see my previous post about caffeine as a diuretic), but I have used it when breaking camp at Capitol Reef National Park, intending to make it to Bryce Canyon without loss of time, driving solo.
Perhaps this is offered tongue in cheek. Maybe it will work for you. Who knows?
