Mike:
The Valle Vidal sector map, revised 2006 (available folded only, not rolled) shows a trail that goes up Greenwood Canyon along a tributary of the Middle Ponil Creek and crosses into the National Forest at about the headwaters of the tributary. It then switchbacks up to Copper Park. I think this must be the trail you're talking about.
