Ah! The wheel has already been invented, wo there is no need to re-invent it. Learn from the mistakes of those who have tread before you.
As for the airline - stove - empty fuel cannister issue, all you can do is LOOSE if you try to convince a TSA or airline employee of his/her error. You still end up with expensive trash left behind and NO STOVE when you get to the ranch.
Let me say this with a big grin on my face. SHIP IT STUPED!!!
And then our friend Bill posts

<<also got another Philmont keychain whistle. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. You will not find a louder or more compact whistle for safety on the trail. And it says "Philmont" on the side. They're right next to the cash register at TOT Traders. Don't fail to pick one up.
Well, all for now. Have a great day.

And with the same grin and laughter, let me say we used to know when New Jersey Scouts were coming because they always had their packs on upside down. Nqw we will know ahead of time and in time to get off the trail and hide because they will be the ones blowing official Philmont beaqr whistles at 90 db.
I apologise. Bill. I just couldn't help myself. Bill Sheehan is considered by me a great Scouter and good friend whom I hope to meet at Philmont some day. Any man who pours over maps for year after year is bound to be a great guy.
BTY, I'm a map freak myself. I once had to go to stay after school for punishment for loking at US Geologican Topo maps in study hall. The teacher deamed it "inappropriate material"
Twenty years later I was using those same maps in an 8th grade science class teaching students how to read them. The next day a kid brought his dad's Philmont map and the day after that I brought mine. Did we have a ball LEARNING.
Sometimes we focus on the PERFECT equipment to take to Philmont too much as we do on stoves. The best is the one that works for your Scouts, no matter what it is.
But keep in mind that Scouts are gadgeteers at heart. If they weren't born that way, then people like Coop, Bill, myself and all the other adults on this list teach them how to be that way. And there is nothing wrong with that.
Beats the hell out ofbeing a drugateer.
