[philmont] INventing The Wheel

While waiting to board my plane at O'Hare Tuesday, one of the
announcements broadcasted over the intercom is that the USPS now offers
boxing and shipping services from the airport for items unsuitable for
carry on. But then you have to get back in line to run through security
again, so you'd have to a lot yourself enough time to process the
shipment and run through the TSA gauntlet a second time. (I'm beginning
to think that one should arrive at the airport the day before your
scheduled travel!) Of course, with regards to stoves specifically, you
would then have to navigate the treacherous waters of an informed USPS
employee willing to ship stoves and fuel canisters!

Ship it ahead of time. There's no real benefit to carrying it on board,
except to save your self a trip to the Philmont post office to recover
it during check-in, and the risk and cost of having it confiscated are
not worth fifteen minutes during check-in.

Ah! The wheel has already been invented, wo there is no need to
re-invent it. Learn from the mistakes of those who have tread before
you.

As for the airline - stove - empty fuel cannister issue, all you
can do is LOOSE if you try to convince a TSA or airline employee of
his/her error. You still end up with expensive trash left behind and NO
STOVE when you get to the ranch.

Let me say this with a big grin on my face. SHIP IT STUPED!!!
