[philmont] Wilderness First Aid IS REQUIRED in 2008 and beyond

At the risk of re-opening a virtual "can" of worms that won't be re-packaged as anything less than a Seatrain Cargo Container.....
The reason it was moved from '07 to '08 was to give time to Councils to come up with a solution for the fact that most Councils east of the Rockies have had little need for Wilderness 1st Aid. That doesn't mean I disapprove of the idea, quite the contrary. Having an up-close and personal experience with the Med Staff at Philmont, made me appreciate the fact that every member of my '06 Crew had basic FA/CPR training before we left. Had our situation been more serious, more intense knowledge may have been required. Luckily, it wasn't serious, but it could have been.
Unfortunately, I doubt that much has changed in the last year. In St Louis, a little talk, but hardly any
action. The local Red Cross chapter still doesn't a WFA course scheduled in the foreseeable future. Neither does GSLAC. Granted, we still have another year to figure it out, but as a former ASM once told me, "There's no minute like the LAST minute!!" So, I expect we'll still be talking about this next year at this time.

I just got an e-mail from Fran at Philmont. One person per crew must be certified in Wilderness First Aid and CPR for the 2008 season and beyond.

You can read and download the 2008 Council & Unit Planning Guide at http://philmontforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=171#171. This is the file Fran e-mailed me this evening.
