You will got lots of replies about special sandals, mocassins and Walmart
water shoes, but in our treks, we always encourage a pair of the most
lightweight running shoes that you can find at a reasonable price. We want
the camp shoes to be comfortable, light, and yet, supportive enough to hike
in should you have a boot (or a foot) blow-out. Irregardless of what route
you go, however, camp shoes are a must for a multitude of reasons. Just my
2 cents. YIS. Mike ('76, '02, '04 and '07).
