[philmont] Camp shoes

Different posts have been made on camp shoes and the archive is
worth checking
for various pros and cons.

I would suggest the "pebble" test for a camp shoe. Wearing the shoe does it
feel ok when you step down hard on some pebbles on a smooth concrete
surface. The point is the shoe needs to protect the feet from sharp rocks
and pebbles, in camp (or out of camp in the unlikely event the boots fail).

A camp shoe is a really good idea. Let your hiking boots have a day off so
they can relax while your feet do the same in camp.

One minor point on camp shoe size: do - not - bring a pair of camp shoes
with you that fit too tightly. Odds are your feet may swell a bit and not
fit well in the camp shoe if they were too snug to begin with.

This latter point is another reason a shakedown hike is a very good idea.
The only way to get an idea of how your feet will fit into a camp shoe is to
actually try it after a shakedown hike.
