[philmont] What's in my Pack for what it's worth.

That's "Boudreaux's" Butt Paste, y'all.
And it literally saved one of our advisors in 2005. In camp the evening of Day 3, I noted he was walking funny and he confided that his skin was raw and had split between his cheeks. He was certain that his trek with his youngest son was over. I handed him a foil sample packet of Boudreaux's that I had gotten from my son's pediatrician and told him to rinse off and then use it. The next morning he couldn't thank me enough...he was completely healed and finished the trek without a problem. He still thinks I'm some kind of wizard.

   Boudrieux's Butt Paste, of course.

Even though it rains at PHilmont, the rain is usually for short times.
Even when it is longer, it still only lasts a couple days. In our 2005
trek, the longest continuous period was two straight days and one
night in August. That left non-rain time in the other eight days on
  the trail.

I go with four pairs of socks because it does take a long time to
dry when you go late in the season. I found it took about 36 hours
to actually dry socks. I'll hang them on the outside of my pack when
it isn't raining, inside my tent when it is, and I'm kinda stuck when
hiking in the rain. I managed to get by with laundry only every
other day. At Philmont, you are rarely without a spot to wash
clothes - usually just the unstaffed camps.

Your gear does not get wet if you have proper rain gear and do
things the right way. Getting wet is a function of lack of experience,
  not a necessary evil.

It really isn't as bad as it sounds, even to us dry country folks (it
was so funny when we got to Philmont and one of the things they
said was "welcome to dry country."). Maybe compared to the
east, but Philmont is *very* wet for us So. Cal. types.
