The Makalu version by Leki have angled cork grips w/ springs and collapse
for air travel. The cork, IMO, massively reduces blistering and seems to be
not as hot as the black rubber. The angle is better, too, to reduce the
strain on the wrists. Spring-loaded upper joints are necessary for anyone
over 40. Without the springs, they're just glorified hiking sticks.

With all due respect, particular features need to be evaluated by what works
for you. Personally, I tried spring-loaded poles but did not like the
"mushy" feeling of planting the pole and then the spring compressing. But
that is my opinion, others (and JC is probably one) don't like the "shock"
of planting the pole and no give. Many poles allow you to adjust the amount
of "give," but in my case that is so close to none that the springs are of
no use.
