Love to shoot the hat. That gives it character.
Just do not shoot it with the .30/06 rifles at Sawmill when it is sitting
on a metal target. see this photo for the results -

On our last trek, one of our boys shot up his hat at sawmill. It wasn't
placed on one of the metal targets, but
it flew up into the air several times as it got blasted.

Four years later, he still occasionally pulls out the hat and wears it. His
mom was pretty understanding, even though it was actually her hat that he
had borrowed for the trek.

I placed a philmont map bandanna on the range at sawmill with the intent to
shoot through sawmill on the map. Man was that a small target! Missed
sawmill (I think, it's kind of hard to tell where it just shredded and where
I actually struck it) by about one inch, which I think was pretty good
shooting.

These things make for great souviners. Advisors poo-pooing this sort of
thing seem to be forgetting who we are there for.
