[philmont] Back Burner Question

Which raises a good question for those of use who are advising crews but have never been to Philmont. Just how early does a crew need to arrive in camp in order to participate in the program activities? I'm sure it depends on the campsite and the program, but if there are high interest activities that require the crew get up and get moving I want to be sure they are properly motivated on those days. We're doing trek 23, and the boys are most interested in the shotguns at Harlan Camp, black powder rifles at Clear Creek Camp, and the rock climbing/rapeling at Miner's Park Camp.

Not to dicker, but my experience (04, 06) has been that the staff simply fills program first come, first served, without any regard for intinerary number or camping location. Got us basically locked out of Balck Powder in '04 at Clear when we were camping there and got there at 10:30a ... nothing available until the next day

Jim's answer is correct. However, I believe if you show up at a program area that is not on your itinerary, I believe your crew would be allowed to participate, but after the crews on their regular itinerary had gone first and if time permitted. Because a Scout is Courteous, that's the way I would encourage our crew to do it anyway.
