A question: how do you all get your platypus bags dry for storage after sterilizing them at the end of the trip? Wondering if anyone knows any tricks.

Method one -- Take them to work and put them into the vent hood, insert the low pressure dry Nitrogen hose into it and purge slowly until dry, about fifteen minutes. It helps if "work" has piped in Nitrogen.

Method two -- All water heaters have an air cushion on the cold water line to prevent water hammers from destroying the plumbing. It's the vertical section of pipe that dead ends about 12-18 inchesabove the cold water inlet.

Install one on the hot water side. The heat from the water heater rises. Place platy, glove, sock or shoe, etc over this pipe and dry it out over a period of the next few days as necessary. You will forget about it but eh heat is low enough that no harm is done.

When you find out how convenient this low heat dryer is, you install a T in the line and a 90 on each end of the T and make two to hold a pair of gloves, boots, etc.

I built mine from sweatsolder joint 3/4" copper pipe. Screw thread galv or brass pipe or even CPVC will do equally well. I built insulation sleeves to slip over them when noit in use for drying to conserve the heat within the water heater..

I discourage blowing out the water with your breath. It's loaded with bacteria, and a few other green grows that are not conductiver to good health.

If you use Camelbacks, then make a spreader hanger to open up the bag to air dry. You can make a similar spreader by custom bending a coat hanger. The cost is nil.

A rinse with water with a few drops of Chlorox added will also prevent or at least retard the grown of cooties.

It is really important to dry them soon and thoroughly to avoid the nastys growing in your bag which contribute to bad tasting water and bad feeling stomachs.
