Since I had a council contingent, I was advised to check with the
Council first, which I did. They did not have a problem so I proceeded
to email Mr. Anderson.
He was very prompt and approved our 13th person. We could still only
show up with 12 as we have one member is having some difficulty with our
practice hikes.
I also asked Mr. Anderson about the ribbon/award that others mentioned
that was withheld. He said that he knew of no reason for the
award/ribbon to be withheld. If we show up with 13 and don't get the
award/ribbon, I will refer them to Mr. Anderson (and will hopefully
remember to bring his email with me).

SteveHere is what i saved including my soap-box answerYiS Sam The
other option is minimizing the Adults in the Crew. From what I have
experienced (1 trek) and heard, adults are usually the problem people
on the trek (I am not trying to start a bar fight!). My son's trek
would have been much better if myself and another out-of-shape,
acrophobic, Cubscout father had been left at home. Do not get me
wrong I loved Philmont. In fact sang my 3-year old daughter to sleep
last night with the Philmont hymn. The trek did give my son and I a
shared, treasured experience that we do talk about positively. But If
you have more than 2 adults and one standby adults then you have too
many. Most of them will not get into shape will carry way too much for
anybody's fitness level on their back and slow up and emotionally
drag down the scouts (boy, I sound negative). BTW, our trek leader
lost his mother January before the trek, he had exercise induced
asthma that she had been hiding from us, and the night before we left
the father decided not to let him go, so even with 13 person crew you
might leave with only 12 Just thoughtsSam Taylor T89, Austin, Texas"

I called the Ranch a while back about this. The answer was to first
write a letter to Mark Anderson. Then hope.
Treks, campsites, food and program are planned/setup for crews of 12
maximum. This may have some impact of the desirability of an extra
crew
member.

I think I remember a posting a while back where someone mentioned
about
having a 13th member added to their crew.
We have a new scout who just relocated due to a family situation and
wants to go with us.
Who does one send this type of request to? Does it matter that it is
a
Council Contingent?
On a side note, is there a way to search this lists' archives?
Thank you for your assistance.

Hello, Apologies to the list however I had previously saved the
thread regarding the 13th crew member and now would like to review,
except I have mislocated my thread. Does someone have it? Or perhaps
a summary? Thank you,Steve
