[Philmont]: Water treatment

>From Bob Klein's report...

"Polar Pure - You have to take Polar Pure (1 bottle for each pair of
trekkers) whether you want or need it or not. No ifs, ands, or buts...."

My questions:

* is polar pure supplied by Philmont ?

* is use of polar pure meant to supplement filtering or to replace
filtering ?

* what exactly is polar pure (my guess is iodine) ?

* water used for cooking, which will be boiled -- must that be 'treated'
first also, or is the boiling itself considered adequate treatment ?

Thanks, Larry
