Re: [Philmont]: First Aid requirements

They require at least one advisor (maybe it can be any crew member -
i.e. a youth?) be first aid certified, and at least one be CPR
certified. They'd prefer two of each. Red Cross and Medic First Aid,
among others, were satisfactory certifications. Here in
Massachusetts, RN's needed to get recertified every two years
profesionally, and that process makes them first aid certified. A
similar recertification may cover the podiatrist.

The certification that caught us unaware was that all adults, not just
the one advisor, needed Youth Protection training.

| Does anyone know exactly what the requirements are for leaders (and/or
| youth) having first aid certification for a Philmont trek. (2003 trek)
|
| What certifications are accepted. We are sending a Podiatrist. Will the
| that qualify for certification? Will I need to call Philmont to verify
| that or will we need to send her to first aid training just to cover ourselves?
|
| We will be starting to look at all of the certifications that adults need
| and schedule whatever classes are needed this fall. There are no Red Cross
| Wilderness First Aid classes offered in our area. (At least our local
| chapter does not know of any in northern Indiana.)
