I attended a fall conference last year.

Your assumptions are mostly correct.

Instead of the usual youth groups they had two - both co-ed. One for
younger and one for older.

The major event at the Fall conference is a Home Schooling Conference. So,
if it is well attended - there may be "lots" of children there as home
schollers can bring their children and keep them in school.

I was surprised last year at how many children there were there.
