Re: [Philmont]: First Aid requirements

I agree with you John. It's foolhardy to assume you are okay having only one crew member certified. On our trek, both I and another advisor had first aid and CPR certification. The other advisor had high blood pressure at the beginning of the trek and was not allowed to join us for 2 days. It was a good thing I had my certification!

Read the fine print and read it correctly and don't interpret it.

What the PhilPolicy reads is not what is posted above but reads "one person,
preferable two, must be certified in first aid AND CPR" It does not say one
person in each. That one person has to be certified in BOTH first aid and
CPR. They can be either adult or youth. Philmont policy states "preferably
two" also.

Be careful here. Our crew had one youth certified. The lead advisor so no
reason to certify any more. I did. Good thing I recertified. That "one
person" was a youth with asthma and had to drop out at the last mintue. Had
I not recertified, the crew would have been inelligible to go on trek.

If I had it my way, before an advisor could accept the postition as lead
advisor they must be certified in outh protection and first aid and CPR. NO
exceptions. I mean if you can't lead by example, how can you lead at all?
