Scouting is a game to you? Is that what you are saying?

I'm in scouting not because it's a game. Oh it's fun, don't get me
wrong, but I'm here to put back more than I got out of scouting.
I want to help teach our scouts self reliance and social responsability.
I want them to come out of scouting as young men, not chronologically,
but mentally as well. We've recently had 3 eagles in our troop, and
I hope that the next one turns out to be as responsible a young man as the
other recent Eagles.

Oh, it's not a religion. It's not that strict, but it should be just
as serious when something like philmont is involved. These boys need to
learn that their actions don't nessecarially affect only themselves, but
also those around them. If the 18yr old scount mentioned earlier in this
thread hadn't been 18, it would have affected his parents, and possibly
his whole crew. Actions have many consequences. Some obvious, most not.
All of which can never be seen, but most of them can bee seen, and reasoned
through. Decisions made based on those well thought out consequences are
better made decisions. They may still end up wrong in the end, but
considering all the consequences and contingencies, make that a less likely
outcome.
