We had two advisors who had to leave on day 10 with medical problems. Both
got their patch. If someone left because they were "worn out", "couldn't go
on", etc., I'm not sure we would award them their patch. I'm certain my
scouts and adults in my troop would agree.
On the other topic, we have always awarded the patches so that they could be
worn to closing campfire.
My 2 cents.
