[Philmont]: 911 Idea

Please pardon me for cross-posting this message to a number of lists at
once. If you receive more than one copy, please accept my apologies for
any inconvenience. As Scouters we take particular delight when we can
help a Scout. I want to share with you a worthwhile effort being
organized by a young Eagle Scout.

Jeremy Scott, a 16-year-old Life Scout of Troop 58 in Phoenix, Arizona
would like your help with his Hands and Hearts, United in Memory effort
for Sept. 11, 2002.

Jeremy is the President and National Director of Hands and Hearts United
in Memory, Inc., a non-profit corporation, which has been formed in
response to the September 11th terrorist attacks. He is organizing a
coast to coast human chain on September 11, 2002. It is his goal to
create an opportunity for all of us to pay tribute to the thousands of
victims and heroes; while helping to heal the pain that we still carry
in our own hearts. He wants to close the gap between the attack sites
and the rest of our scarred nation. He feels that through this event he
can accomplish these things.
He would like you to become a part of this tribute. He needs you to go
to his web site and learn more about this event. Please pledge to stand
along the route. He has operating expenses and permit fees to pay and is
raising funds by selling event T-shirts and caps. No one on his staff is
being paid. He also needs volunteers to help in many areas of the
planning and on the day of the event. Visit their web site
http://www.handsandhearts.org to volunteer your services, order
T-shirts, to pledge your spot in line or to make a donation. For more
information email to: info@handsandhearts.org.

A PLUG FOR BOYS' LIFE

When you visit our site at http://usscouts.org, you'll see a splash
screen featuring the Boys' Life Reading Contest. Please make sure that
every Scout in your unit knows that he can earn the Boys' Life Reading
Patch and may qualify for more prizes. Reading is so important and so
often neglected. Help your Scouts develop a life skill by participating.

REMEMBERING 911

Starting on September 1, 2002 our home page at http://usscouts.org will
feature a special logo honoring those who lost their lives on September
11. The 911 logo will be available to all Scouters to use on their
websites.
