Alan R. Hamm asks (about Autumn Adventure)...
Sounds neat. So you stay at unstaffed staffed camps and trail camps? I would
expect that it is often mostly adults since youth are in school?
Must not be too crowded.
Response...
In 2000, the Patriots' Path and Calvin's group were there the same week (reports
originally posted to the old Bowline List are on Selden's pages). Calvin's
crew stayed at Beaubien the week, and sidehiked from there. Our group went
to Beuabien with them, hiked through Fish Camp (saw a troop from Dallas with
a week long vacation there) to Abreu. Then hopped up to the Central country
and spent a day /night at Hunting Lodge / Hidden Valley / Window Rock. Then
hopped up to the North and did Baldy. Did not see anyone in the backcountry
(except a couple full time staff) after the second day.
You have a "guide" with you the whole time. You pick how many days you want
to stay, where you want to go, and what you want to do with minimal constraints.
Personal vehicles must be left at turnarounds. Some cabins are open and can
be used. Philmont provides the food, bear bags and ropes, and Polar Pure -
crew supplies the rest. Philtents are not included, but can be rented.
A great program.
