It certainly is not 'always' cold at Philmont. On our trak in 2000, it
was never once cold enough to even zip up a 3 season bag, and my
fleece jacket was dead weight (never used) the whole trek. Yes it's
good to 'be prepared' in case, but you can't guarantee cold weather!
