I certainly agree with your reply. However, regarding the comment about
shakedowns--we did our six in New Jersey and Pennsylvania (yes, there are
mountains in NJ) and knew what to expect from this part of the country. But
New Mexico in July? Hard to predict from our shakedowns how cold we might
feel down there. My pack weighed 45 pounds (we carried 4.5 days worth of
food to start, and ported water quite often because of the many dry camps we
were rerouted to) and I only weigh 120, so I followed the ranger's advice
and dumped my fleece at base camp. Next time, it will be the first thing I
pack, and it will stay packed.
