I had the same misfortune as Jerry, only my lack of service came through
T-Mobile (aka Voicestream). I don't think I managed to get service leaving
Philmont and heading for Dallas until we reached Amarillo, but then I might
have been snoozing on the bus until then.
Others had better luck. I know that most everyone from base camp, including
the local sheriff's deputies, drives south of Philmont to the scenic
overlook near Urraca Mesa. You can go there at almost any hour and find all
kinds of folks pulled over using their cell phones.
