At PTC, anywhere around the handicrafts lodge to on up to the campfire area
was fine. On the Camping side, I would think that pretty much anywhere
between the library and the opening/closing campfire areas you should be
able to get a good signal.
However, be warnded that if you have a cell phone that has to roam to pick
up a signal, the roaming costs can eat you up, about 45 to 50 cents per
minute. Cost wise you would be better off to use the Philmont pay phones.
At Sam's Club, you can get an AT&T prepaid calling card that only costs 3.5
cents per minute that can be used with the pay phones. CostCo has MCI cards
for about the same price per minute, but since the Philmont phones are
serviced by AT&T, there might be some slight surcharge for the MCI cards.
