What is the "second trekking ranch" you mentioned? The links on the
Philmont web site show the same area I saw as a scout.

PTC people that attend Training Conferences (3K plus per year) buy some
of the 14,000 plus shirts they sell at Tooth of Time Traders, and they
have no weight restrictions, because they do not hike or go out. We took
a bus tour of Philmont area while @ PTC and they told us what a big
business ToT is (sell to over 28K visitors per year, and high volume
shirts, water bottles, Philmont souvenirs- plus a huge mail order
business). Philmont has four areas of revenue - PCC, Camping and Treks,
PTC Training and Conferences, PSR, Working Scouting Ranch, ToT - Gift
Shop. They need all of them to keep everything reasonable. I would have
loved to buy a 3X while I was there, but they did not have in stock at
that moment. Some items they sell/turnover at least 200 plus per day. I
called back via mail order last week and ordered everything I missed the
week before (gift wise/size) from Tooth of Time Traders mail order
section. Now your son knows why they carry (3x) for souvenirs for
Conferences Attendees (and my son better bring me back (or arrange via
mail order) a 3x or 4x shirt when I spend all my money to send him on a
trek). They do have a regular restock supply system, they were out of
things I (a PTC conference attendee) wanted too, but they had it the
next week or two when I called back and ordered via mail order. They are
temporary out of Tooth of Time Traders Philmont Catalog but will have
soon, and they promised me I am on their mailing list and will send me
on as soon as they come out. I dropped my personal ceramic Philmont
coffee mug at tent city the day I was leaving and it broke on the
concrete! I called the next week and got the same mug a week later via
mail order so no problem. I plan to order many 3x/4x items and gifts
from ToTT. Philmont Camping Center (where the Tooth of Time Traders Gift
Shop is located) sees over 22,000 plus (more soon now that we have
access to the second trekking ranch) and does a high volume of gift
business in shirts, and other Philmont souvenirs. As a person who missed
buying what I wanted at the moment at the Gift Shop I am sorry for you
and your son missing the gift opportunity, but you can still get via
mail order. Every time I have called the ToTT the have given me
excellent customer service and my stuff has arrived in a timely manner
and in great shape (they pack very well)! Thanks for supporting the
Treks, and the Gift Shop, but more especially thank you being a good
scout and letting other people go on their first trip to Philmont! Even
though I only attended Philmont Training Center for a Cub Scout
Conference it was the still highlight of my Scouting Volunteering
Career!!! Thanks for being a true Scout! Yours in Scouting: Jerry D.
Bailey (Asst. Cubmaster (wears size 3x/4x BSA shirts) (to big for the
trail, but to big for Cub Scout Leadership (Leader of the Year - two
years in a row) (good help is hard to get) I LOVE SCOUTING and hope to
help organize unit and District treks to Philmont when my son becomes
Philmont age/weight eligble. Just attended Philmont for first time last
month, and it renew and revived my hope and love for Scouting
Growth!

Subject: [Philmont]: ToTT and shirts

My son got back from Philmont last week. This was my son's second trek.
I
had allowed adults who had not been there before to go and I took
younger
scouts backpacking in Southern Indiana. I was glad I chose not to go to

Philmont, as I had some very sore knees after day 1 and am still some
pain
two weeks later after only packing 25 miles.

But to my point...I had given my son some money to buy me a Philmont
shirt. He came back with a very nice long sleeve shirt. He said he
found
a short sleeve t-shirt that he really liked, but they only had it in
triple
X. He wondered why they would even carry that size as anyone that large

would weigh too much for the trail. Maybe that is why it was the only
size
left. Do they ever restock during the season?
