Can anyone tell me the approximate volume and weight of one days' Philmont
food, for any convenient number of people? (I understand that it is packed
for four people.) On a 2-day shakedown trek, I'd like to simulate carrying
4 days worth of food, and so in addition to the food we will carry, I'd like
to add to our load zip-lock bags that are large and heavy enough to simulate
being the rest.

We just got back a couple weeks ago, the typical food bag provided two servings for the meal, with dinner weighing as much as 1 - 2 pounds, and lunch and breakfast at a bout a pound for 2 servings. You will carry as much as 4.5 days worth of provissions or about 60 of these bags wacked up between the crew. Eat the heavy stuff first, ditch the drink mixes, they are heavy.
