Re: [Philmont]: Size/weight of food

In the days in the past, I would agree with eating all the heavy meals
first. But I think that strategy has changed. The meals were
origionally designed to give the propper nutrients and calories for each
day. As time went on, things were taken out and added to the meals
without regard to calorie count or nutrition. In the past couple of
years, Philmont has made a effort to make the meals work better and have
propper calorie count and nutrition. All the meals are labled Breakfast,
Lunch, or Supper 1-10. The meals for each day should be eaten with the
same number. Say Breakfast 2, Lunch 2, and Supper 2 all on the same day.
The calories and what not have been balanced to make sure you are
getting enough energy that day. If you eat all the heavy meals on one
day you may eat Breakfast 2, Lunch 1, and Supper 3. You may wind up
getting 4700 calories. When you get to your lighter meals you may eat on
one day Supper 3, Lunch 2, and Supper 1. This may wind up giving you
2300 calories for the day. (I have no idea how many calories are in each
meal bag, this is just a guess)

Each day is designed to give you atleast 3000 cal/day. Although I would
hope that it is more calories as 3000 is for a person with a normal
daily activity. Backpacking is not normal daily activity.

Just a thought
