Re: [Philmont]: Size/weight of food

Although I don't have a feel for how close a comparison could be made
with the current year's food packaging, in 1999 our crew used five pound
sacks of pet food to help mimmic the weight and bulk of trail food on
shake-down and training hikes. [For several weeks before we left, I
carried two bags along with my other stuff in my pack around my
neighborhood.] For those without pets, we suggested that they might
donate the food to the animal shelter. To help keep the "smellable"
issue to a minimum, we also double wrapped the pet food in trash bags.

Happy Trails,

Roy Fisher
