My wife, who grew up on a Christmas tree farm, says it's a problem.
Standard solvents will remove the pitch - gasoline, kerosene, turpentine,
paint thinner, mineral spirits - but my guess is they'll adversely affect
the waterproofing *and* the tent fabric. She thinks alcohol might be your
best compromise...test some on a small area first to see what it does. If
the waterproofing is affected, you might still be able to re-waterproof the
tent afterwards.
Leaving the pitch alone might also be an option, although it will remain
sticky for awhile before it finally crystallizes, at which point those spots
on the fabric will become weaker.

Does anyone know how to remove pine resin from tent fabric without
affecting the waterproofing? Ive tried scraping, but it wont all come off.
