RE: [Philmont]: Philmont edicts - horses

We weren't able to ride the horses at Beaubien as there weren't enough
available on the day we were scheduled to be there, and one of our crew
members weighed over 200 pounds and couldn't ride anyway. It may not have
been the ultimate experience, but it is something we wanted to do and
missed out on. It may have been well worth it for this scout. While much of
the population takes horse-back riding for granted, where we live it costs
more than $20 to ride a horse somewhere, and you get much the same kind of
ride and you'd get at Philmont -- but it wouldn't BE at Philmont. After all
the time, money and preparation spent just getting there, I can understand
his buying something last minute to make sure he doesn't miss out.
Regardless of the experience, he got a great pair of pants out of the deal
-- and none of us can determine the value of the horse-ride for the scout.
