I'm with you, Mollie!

Last summer, our Troop was blessed enough to have had 2 backpacking treks
AND we were pulled for a lottery trek. (Yes, it is possible to do this in
the same year. you just can't go to Philmont in Back-to-back years).

I was in our our our backpacking crews, prior to Cavalcade, as was my 15 YO
son. After the Cavalcade trek, I asked our guys who "double-dipped" (did
both treks) which they preferred.

A resounding, "CAVALCADE!"

I'm with them.

Not sure why/who told you to buy $55 pants to ride a horse, Phil. We rode
them at Clark's Fork and our whole Crew had on shorts. No problem!

Later,

Mark Alman (all this Cavlacade talk makes me want to mount up and go back!)

Our Cavalcade crew arrived home on 7/23. All 15 of us just took whatever
rain pants we already owned. Personally, I purchased a $25 set of jacket &
pants from Wal*Mart and took only the pants as Philmont provides the
slicker. There was no discussion by our horseman or wrangler regarding
noise being a problem for the horses or what would stand up to the rigors
of
riding through trees/brush. Same for our sister crew. I don't know who
led
y'all down this path but it's a shame to make you feel you should make such
an extraordinary investment in something that was such an unnecessary
amount
of $$ to spend.

Nose-to-tail being what it is, seeing Philmont from a horseback point of
view is pretty special. I only have one who is semi-interested in doing
the
walking - the rest wouldn't trade our method of travel next time!

here's to returning in two years!
