<snip> However, by a long shot, Carson was the most pristine LNT camp we saw
on our trek. If I were on Philmont Conservation Staff, I'd worry about the
impact of making Carson a staffed camp. Especially since they'll inevitably
build a staff cabin and have multiple crew campsites (as opposed to the
rather discreet four they have now.)

Actually, "inevitably" sounds like it will be this fall - in that interview,
Mark Anderson said he would be going to Carson Meadows that day (would have
been late June) with an architect to pick the location for the cabin. How
many campsites ultimately will be a function of how many treks are
scheduled to stay there for the night.

The interview ran about three pages and was pretty interesting. A theme
that ran through it was managing the resources of the ranch, and minimizing
the impact on them. While constructing a new staff camp clearly will
impact, hopefully it will be done with sensitivity.
