48 yrs. old, second Trek to Philmont. (2 yrs. ago).
We did approx. 80 miles w/ side hikes etc. including Baldy and over the "Tooth" on our last day into Base Camp.
Stairmaster w/ my sons school back-pack full of 32 lbs. of books. Probably not "ideal" but got the desired work-out. 5 times a week the last several months plus my normal racquetball games. Not counting the altitude (West Texas at 1600 ft.) I did o.k.
I do agree with those who say you can never work out enough.

With 2004 Philmont season drawing to an end. Would like to hear from adults, especially those over 40, on how you prepared yourself for Philmont. Just hiking with the scouts does not make it happen and some of you found out the hard way.
