MessageWe just got back from our trek 28. The northern approach to Baldy is much better than the southern approach. I think it is more gradual and less loose rocks to climb. We camped at Miranda and hiked through Black Horse Canyon to Baldy to French Henry, to Baldy Town and back to Miranda.

Subject: [Philmont]: Approaches to Baldy
2005 Crew 618-B will begin to look at possible treks in the next month, or so. I want the boys to study the sectionals to get an idea about what it will take to get in shape for our trek. I thought I would have them look at the approaches to Baldy and Phillips. I was at Phillips in 2002 and I think I have a handle on it. But I haven't been to Baldy since 1974. How many camps hike Baldy and what are the pro and cons of each approach? That should be an easy question ; )
