The camp that our troop has used for summer camp for the past 6 years
has an excellent High Adventure program on the Appalachian Trail. 4
days of bp on the AT (30-35 miles) then one day of white water rafting
on the Nolichucky River with USA Rafts. Some gorgeous territory,
challenging terrain profile (but not super strenuous) and a great, fun
day at the end of the trail. We used it as the kick-off to our one year
plan of prep activities for Philmont i.e. everyone going to Philmont had
to do the AT. We ran into some guys who had traveled there from Texas
to summer camp where they had the opportunity to do the same thing as a
Philmont prep. Amazingly, we ran into them on the front porch at
Pueblano on our trek this year.
The summer camp is Camp Davy Crockett in the Sequoyah Council The link

Our council, the Great Smoky Mountain Council has a similar program that
does the AT through the Smoky Mountains National Park. I haven't been
