[Philmont]: Alternative to Philmont

For those of you deep on the wait list who still want a mountain
backpacking experience, you might check out the Denver Area Council Tahosa
Alpine Adventures program. Camp Tahosa is the DAC High Adventure camp
located about an hour west of Boulder. Alpine Adventures is a 6 day
backpacking program in the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area. You have a ranger
with you the entire time. It is about 1/2 the price of Philmont, but there
is little of the awesome program you enjoy at Philmont as you are mainly
hiking on Federal lands.

Some of the details are at the following url:

http://www.denverareacouncil.com/council/camping/camp_7/index_files/Page699.htm

I would suggest that you contact the council for more details
(camping@denverareacouncil.com). While I haven't been on an Alpine
Adventure (we have been lucky enough to get Philmont treks both times we
wanted one), I have heard good reviews. Our Philmont junkies in our
Venture crew are considering the Alpine Adventure next year.

YIS.
