At our contingent training, the people who had been to Philmont before
emphasized turning the bags upside down before you cut them open. They said
this was so you would have a bag that could be used for something, if
needed. I don't think we needed them for anything on the whole trek.
However, if you turned them over before you cut them, they would be suitable
for rehydration.
