Although I'm (thankfully) not from the east coast ;>) I have experienced
nose bleeds when I have gone to higher elevations. I'm of the belief
that this is due to the reduced humidity, but increased activity
(breathing more)could also be a culprit. I have found that a light
coating of petroleum jelly on the inside of each nostril is usually
enough to take care of the problem, but when weight is not an issue, I
also use a buffered saline nose spray solution. The petroleum jelly in
the antibiotic ointment could have been a factor in your success.
