RE: [Philmont]: Lyrics to "Edge of Texas"?

I have the Michael Hearne CD but I can't distinguish the exact words.

Michael sings:

A knock on my door from a friend from long ago
Said I'm going down to Texas won't you join me on the road
Ain't no rhyme or reason just look-look (?) what is lost
So I grabbed a bag, a baseball cap, spread (?) the covered cost

As for the cactus, my 12 year old son swears he has drank something with
nopalito cactus juice in it but I can't confirm that.
