We were informed by the Philbus driver that both Mona Lisa and the grocery
store were out-of-business-closed. Very sad that these businesses could
not survive near the train station.
The Philbus driver was VERY willing to stop anywhere we wanted on the way
to the train, fast food, grocery store, whatever. Even after she dropped
everyone at the station, she offered to drive me back to the other grocery
store, about a mile south of the station.
We were headed east on a 5:30 pm train, right around dinner time.
Amazingly, our train was on time, so we only had about a hour to kill and
not enough time to wander too far, so we ended up eating on the train.
Have a great trip, Don!

RE: [Philmont]: Raton update
Brad:
Thanks for letting us know. Forewarned is forearmed.
We'll be taking the train back on August 20, I'm sure everyone will be
back from Jambo by then.
Question, when you say closed, is it out of business closed or some sort
of temporary closed, if you could tell?
Since the train headed west is scheduled to leave the station at 10:30 am
or so, it would be a bit early for lunch.
Which direction were you going? Do you think we could talk the driver of
the Philbus into stopping in Cimmaron on the way to get something?

Leaving in TWO days!!!!
From: Brad Ewing
Just returned from an awesome trip to Philmont and I wanted to give a
heads up to those returning home via Amtrak from Raton.
The area around the Amtrak station in Raton is DESOLATE! Mona Lisa pizza
is closed and so it the grocery store a few blocks north of the station.
There is a Shell station just south of the station with snacks and
pre-made sandwiches or you can have Dominos deliver pizza to the station,
but that is about it.
