We had to take the road from Ponil to Flume Canyon/Pueblano. If we did not
have the burro we might have hiked over Wilson Mesa. I know I would have
wanted to if that had been an option, but I have no idea what the crew would
have decided. From Pueblano to Head of Dean and then to Miranda we went on
the trails so having the burro made no difference.
A comment that I have heard often is that the burros slow you down. We did
not find that to be true for us other than the morning we had to go to burro
training. But that can also be viewed as program time. On 21 the three
days you have the burro are short hiking days. We were always in camp by
lunch and had plenty of time to take advantage of all the available program
opportunities on those days.

Thanks for the input, it's been an observation that I made from this list
that burros weren't the most fun thing on the list. I was sure there were
positive viewpoints, but until now, really none have come out. But today
there were a few. Trek 32 is high on my list, but starting out with
cantankerous mules was not. I also understood logistics forced you to take
them on particular paths. Were you guys required to follow a less than
optimal trail with your burro?
