Hi Sue,
Glad you had a great trip. We just got back ourselves and were three crews: 724-M1, M2, & M3. Our 724-M3 crew did Trek 8 as well. They had a fantastic trip. Glad you made it back safe and sound.
(If you're curious, Crew M1 did Trek 11 and my M2 crew did Trek 4.)

Subject: [Philmont]: Crew 726-K1 & K2 - We're Back!
WHAT A RUSH! Ok, so I'm 43 years old and probably sound really odd saying that, but we had an awesome trek! We did Trek #8 - no burros (based on a group decision I think - too long ago to remember) and it was really a great trek. WE only had a couple of rough spots - one advisor with a minor problem just before we hiked up Baldy, a nasty storm in Copper Canyon resulting in flash flooding (we made the move to higher ground just in the nick of time) and a rainout from the top of the ridge over Indian Writings - resulting in coming down the gulch during a fast moving storm dropping a lot of water rushing down that gulch! Truly high adventure!
It is awesome country - as all of you probably know, and I am so glad I didn't give in to my initial thoughts about being the only female with 12 other young men and advisors! WE had 2 crews originally 8 and 7, 2 dropped out in June, leaving us with 7 and 6. Upon arrival, they gave us a little bit of a lecture about "no crews under 7 " but with all the paperwork handed in, they knew we were coming! We ended up staying together the entire trek - a large crew of 13 with alternating crew chiefs and 2 naviguessers and 2 chaplain aides. It worked pretty well, we really had no problems!
Trek 8 is a typical trek, with Baldy as a side hike - I'd do it again in a heart beat.
