Um,

I believe Philmont requires adult advisors to be 21. At 18, he is still considered a "youth." He's actually a "special case youth" in that he is not allowed to tent with either adults or under-18 youths.

Another solution is to look to recently-graduated scouts. They probably know your guys and will fit in, and might have missed the Philmont opportunity. We did this for a recent canoe trip for one slot and he fit right in. It's better than recruiting strangers, and since he is over 18 he counted as an adult advisor.

Good luck!

Our Troop has 2 crews for 2006, 727-h. We only have 3 adult advisors, one has already dropped out. We have a spot for One advisor and 1-2 youth. How have members of this list filled spots like this in the past? Have they worked out? This is considering the dynamics of a Troop that has backpacked together quite a bit before going, feeling comfortable with each others pace and then putting new face in with this. My thought is to call the council high adventure chairman and ask for help off the council waiting list or asking for those on the philmont waiting list subscribed to this list for interested people.
