This trip (my 3rd trip) this summer I has 2 18 year olds and a 17 year old
that were my Senior Scouts. I had to upgrade the 18 year olds to adult
leaders several times to make things work out. The 17 year old is now in
charge of approving all candidates that want to go to Philmont now. My Crew
chief was 15. I thought the boys were in charge? 1 of the 18 and the 17
year olds this was their 2nd trip out there. Any of the 3 could do a great
job on their own leading a crew, the proved their self this summer.

Excellent post. There are vast differences between 22 year olds. I can
think of a great many reasons why some 22 year olds would be vastly
preferred to a 55 year old, out of shape, parlor Scoutmaster.

I can also think of reasons why a less mature, less confident 22 year
old would not be a good choice.
